Dr. Colin O'Connell, Ph.D.
Dr. O’Connell, our Tumor Registrar is responsible for managing and analyzing clinical cancer information for the purpose of education, research, outcome measurement and performance improvement. This information is gathered and submitted to the Department of Health and ultimately the National Cancer Data Base. This data is collected by the hospital and the Department of Health to better understand how cancer functions as a disease within the territory and to help ensure quality patient care. Dr. Colin O'Connell, a research scientist born and raised in St. Thomas; he came back after completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California Santa Barbara, Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. Dr. O'Connell received his bachelor's degree in 1991 from Villanova University and received a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology at the University of Maryland before his post-doctoral research in Santa Barbara.
